How we helped the Tessera Oracle hit 680% funded on Kickstarter

The client

The Tessera Oracle, a thoroughly modern divination system inspired by the Tarot, sacred geometry, and enamel pins — created by designer Tory Woollcott

The problem

Tory came to us with an idea. She wanted to launch a new divination system — a set of charms that could be used both for intuitive guidance and worn as jewellery. It was a beautiful idea, but that’s all it was. Aside from inspiration, she was lost.

Tory was a seasoned designer, but all of the things that go into creating and marketing a business felt overwhelming.


The solution

Together we set out to uncover all of the pieces that needed to fall into place to bring it into the world. In short, a brand.

We found her muse. A customer avatar so clear it could be a source of inspiration for everything Tory wrote and designed, so that her marketing would resonate with the right people.

We asked why. Why was Tory doing this? What impact did she want to have? How could her core values shape what this project needed to become?

We uncovered the business underneath the idea. And found a way to bring all of Tory's work together into a complex and powerful whole. 

Most of all, we connected with Tory's deepest vision, getting crystal clear on what she really wanted to create. That meant that whenever any questions came up (and there were a lot of them) she had something that would help guide the way forward. 

Once all of that was in place, she had the foundation to create her Kickstarter campaign — with some help from us (in the form of brand and copy consulting + a kickstarter video) along the way.


The outcome

Tory launched her project on Kickstarter asking for $9000 to make the Tessera Oracle real. Less than 24 hours after launching, she’d hit her goal. 48 hours later she had twice that.

By the end of the campaign the Tessera Oracle had over $64,000 in funding from people who were completely in love with her idea. Tory had a community of fans who have gone on to become devoted customers. And she was able to turn her idea into an actual, legitimate business that she now runs full time. Success.
