The project
A new message and copy for Streamlined Payments — A B2B invoicing and payments platform for Shopify store owners making the move from DTC to wholesale.
This was a close, ongoing collaboration where we were able to completely rework Streamlined's messaging, copy, produt experience, and marketing based on a deep understanding of their customers.
The challenge
A mismatch between what customers wanted from Streamlined, and what the company was saying.
Streamlined had a great product, and some great customers. But they weren’t seeing the traction they wanted, because they hadn’t found a message that resonated with prospects.
How we tackled it
A deep dive into understanding how customers saw Streamlined — so we could figure out how to sell it.
Streamlined had been DIYing their copy, and trying to figure out what to say to sell it. Instead of guessing, we kicked off with a substantial research and strategy project, learning how customers saw Streamlined, and realizing there was a HUGE disconnect in what we talked about vs. what they loved.
Armed with updated messaging in hand, we were able to completely rework the website and customer journey, from start to finish.
The Strategy
The research surfaced a clean disconnect between how Streamlined's team talked about the product and how customers talked about the problem.
The founder kept talking about payments — the technical core of the product, and the word he'd been using to sell it. Every customer we spoke to used a different word: invoicing. That's how they understood the job, and what they were shopping for.
We led with the language they used. Invoicing, not payments. The door customers were already trying to walk through.
We met them in the chaos they recognised — naming the pain points before pitching the solution, so the right people could see themselves on the page from the first line.
We pulled the social proof out of the margins and gave it real estate, with company logos and customer voices doing the heavy lifting.
We created a set of case studies featuring real customers who matched our target, so that other businesses could really see themselves, and understand how Streamlined could actually help.
So we rebuilt the messaging around the customer, not the product:
The result
Copy that spoke their customers’ language and increased conversions.
We were able to take Streamlined’s brand and copy from generic and blah, to clear and compelling. By using language that spoke directly to our best fit customers (instead of trying to speak to everyone), we were able to connect with and convert more customers who were ready to pay Streamlined’s prices, because they saw the value clearly, right from the start.
We were also able to use our original customer interviews to create a set of case studies, which became Streamlined's highest converting marketing asset.
